Equipment

  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 fine-mesh sieve

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup quinoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Start by rinsing the quinoa under cold running water, then drain well.
  • Add the rinsed quinoa to a saucepan along with the water and salt. Bring to a boil over high heat, uncovered.
Once it starts boiling, lower the heat to a gentle simmer and partially cover the pan.
  • Let the quinoa cook for 10–12 minutes.
To check if it’s ready, use a fork to gently pull the quinoa aside and look at the bottom of the pan. If all the water has been absorbed, it’s time to move on.
Turn off the heat, fully cover the saucepan, and let the quinoa steam for 10 minutes. This resting time is key — it allows the grains to finish cooking without turning mushy.
  • After resting, uncover the quinoa and fluff it gently with a fork to separate the grains.
Serve warm or let it cool slightly before using it in salads.
